What The Law Says
There are several pieces of legislation which protect personal safety in the workplace;
- Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 – Sets out how to protect health, safety and wellbeing
- Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 – Requires sufficient risk assessments
- Protection from Harassment Act 1997 – Criminal offence to cause a person to fear violence, distress or alarm.
- RIDDOR – Reporting of incidents that lead to illnesses, injuries or death.
- Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 – liabilities if a safety breach results in death.
